Issue 19 Banner

We are pleased to announce the release of Issue 19, our autumn issue focusing on home adaptations.

Each issue of Innov-age features articles written by leading professionals from both within and outside the NHS, sharing best practice and innovation and helping to improve the care and safety of older people.

In this issue, Sarah Achterof and Emily Somerville, both with backgrounds in occupational therapy, introduce the issue and discuss how home modifications can increase the safety and independence of older people choosing to live at home.
Dr Ben Maruthappu, co-founder and CEO of home care start-up Cera, gives us insight into how cutting edge technology in homecare can help support older people in staying independent for longer.
George McCarthy and Ged Murphy discuss the U-drain technology, simplifying the process of using urine night drainage bags and providing dignity for patients.
Justine Theaker, a clinical lead physiotherapist for trauma and orthopaedics within the NHS discusses her recent literature review on patient adherence to restrictions and precautions following total hip replacement operations.

This issue also talks about understanding and characterising disability pathways and dependency to improve quality of life in older people, delays in transfer of support from health to social care and the work done by the New Charter Group with older tenants, and home adaptations from the perspective of reducing injuries, preventing falls and improving reduced physical activity.
Innov-age is published quarterly in both print and digital versions, has been launched by the Edward Centre for Healthcare Management Research, part of the Edward Healthcare group of companies and produced in association with TRUSTECH, MIMIT and MAHSC to promote excellence in elderly healthcare.
